The problem is that he is on par with other mids. VP, Liquid, LGD, Newbee...etc all have a strong mid player, a strong carry and a strong offlaner. EG however somehow they settled with the playstyle that EG have to sacrifice no matter what even if the lane was favorable for him. In other Tier 1 teams this doesn't happen, if Midone has a favorable lane as DK, he just become top 1 networth and snowballs.

It is also easy to draft against EG nowadays, you know they will pick DK, Viper, DP, which are all low tempo heroes who do not flash farm and cannot carry late game. They are also picking his hero first or second. And even if they give him late pick, it is already known what is he gonna pick, which reduces the drafting power a lot. It makes a huge difference for instance knowning that the enemy mid can be a Tinker or a Timbersaw or a QoP...etc but this doesn't happen with EG because fear doesn't play those heroes on a high level. I get that Fear is supposed to get pos3 farm, but when Sumail needs to go for something like batrider, and Fear already picked DK, then everything becomes on RTZ's shoulder to carry the game alone, and he often cannot with an enemy underlord, Timbersaw and TB for instance.
