Steel tip darts is like a pyramid scheme. It only benefits the best players. Take for example say an ADO qualifier. We have those every so often here and everybody puts in $10 and usually there's enough for the winner take all to get his entry fee paid in the regionals. Someone like Chuck shows up, well, basically we're just helping pay Chuck's entry fee lol. I dont mind because I like the guy, I get to play a round robin 501 tournament and its a lot of darts for $10. Im cool with it. But look how many people show up, 10 maybe? Thats a pretty sad turn out. Then you have the regionals which cost $100 entry fee and you have like 3-4 people enter. Its the usual suspects; Chuck, Fatum, and JC. Who the fuck wants to pay $100 to play a best of 3 against those guys? The model is flawed. And I think you're saying something similar with the CDC. It's not really them per se, it's just the whole culture of steel tip and 501.

Now we go to soft tip, large payouts, handicaps, money paid out down to top 16 or top 32, it works for everyone. I pay $20 to enter a soft tip tournament and I win a match or two, I get my money back. Thats not a bad deal. Its a totally different business model and it works (to the dismay of the purist and better players). Plus there's cricket, blinky lights and fun sounds, you dont have to do any math, etc etc. I don't think steel tip will ever totally die because there's people like us, that will just make our own league and play each other and except it for what it is. But any sort of large organization? Its going to take something short of a miracle to pull it off
