I feel like I’m being taken advantage of in my marriage and family.

Well, I'm not going to dispute the 50/50 of assets, but it does suck when both people make a livable wage. The sad truth is, that more men than women save for retirement, at least at a younger age. Was shocked to see the division during a company meeting (100+ people) discussing 401ks, company match, etc. Most of the women had 0%, though the handful of women that were contributing were exceeding the company match.

Personally, I had ~$100k in retirement vs her $5k and both of us work in the finance field. She stopped contributing at some point while my investments had some huge returns (this was prior to 2008).

Yes, the court system needs to be revamped from the 1950s system & thinking we currently have where the norm was single income families. I don't recommend to men to get married as the current system stands. There is no stigma to living together as a couple being unmarried and with the divorce rate so high, it makes no financial sense. There are a couple medical reasons, but those are remote possibilities versus the divorce rate.
