I feel like this was a missed opportunity in The Witcher 3, that I'm both grateful and disappointed about, that should be taken to its full advantage in The Witcher 4.

I feel like the lack of hostile, random creatures in the oceans around Skellige was such a missed opportunity.

Even knowing there's nothing there except the occasional drowner or siren you get plenty of notice for, I get such a sense of anxiety swimming over black ocean waiting for something to make me reload a save unexpectedly.

Part of me is big grateful they missed it, because with the number of map markers to clear there would have just noped out before clearing the whole map probably.

While I'm glad swimming around in the ocean is pretty low key besides the occasional whale startle, really hope they change it up when The Witcher 4 comes out.

Maybe every 6 to 15 minutes on the open ocean a random giant shark spawns and starts hunting our protagonist without impending combat music or map markers.
