Feel trapped

I used to have reoccurring dreams during my first year and a half of law school where I would try to leave the law school building through one of the building's access points and the doors would open up into one of the building's other access points, over and over.

Obviously, I felt the same way you did. My SO and I met in undergrad and he went to law school one year before I did and we went to the same law school as well. We learned to cope with the inevitable stress together. The stress and anxiety of law school can be consuming.

Some things we learned along the way:

If you're spending a lot of the time in one particular place, change it up a bit. Go for a walk outside, breathe fresh air. Study somewhere different a couple of times a week. Doing the same thing every single day in the same place can drive a person crazy.

Spend time with loved ones. Your loved ones understand you in a way that some, if not all, of your colleagues don't. We found that recharging our batteries with our families and old friends outside of law school really helped, even if it was just a long phone call or Skype session.

Volunteer and/or work. Volunteering is also a great way to get out and do something different and remind yourself there is more to life than law school. It also looks good on a resume.

During my third year, I worked a part time job at a hotel on the weekends. Working with people who have no idea what law school is was a very good experience. It reminded me that the world goes on outside the law school building. Plus, I got great discounts on hotel rooms.

Also, try not to stress so much about getting the A and try to learn as much as you can from some very brilliant legal minds. You went to law school to learn to become a good lawyer and that is what the professors are there for. And most professors, if not all, are there because they want to do exactly that---teach you everything they know about a subject, and it is A LOT.

I found that once I stopped stressing about being completely prepared and understanding all of the material right away, I started retaining a lot more information and testing better.

You're a 2L and will be a 3L soon. It gets better. Learn as much as you can and do what makes you happy. It will be over before you know it.
