Is the feeling of being attracted to the same gender in Islam allowed in Islam as long as the individual does not act on it? What is your stance on this?

I think a good example of this is being attracted to a direct family member. The best option would be to control your desires and not to make them public. The moment it becomes public, things can only become worse for you.

The reason homosexuality is more present nowadays than ever before is because of how mainstream it has become. About 100 years ago, almost everyone considered it an immoral act. It might as well have been compared to incest and bestiality ("If everyone consents, why is it a problem?"). In our day and age, rather than seeking guidance from the one who sent perfect guidelines (God), they create their own 'moral and immoral guidelines', which is why homosexuality is so common nowadays. You claim that "people can't control how they feel", but that is the result of the way homosexuality has been ultimately normalized in major parts of the world. I'd absolutely go as far as to claim that this movement is a form of brainwashing (as extreme as that word sounds). It is being mandated on school students, policies, and events. I've seen people out there who are afraid to publicly state their opinion because they are afraid to get CANCELLED!

The best way to find a solution to this issue is to:
1. Gain beneficial knowledge
2. Understand that whatever Allah says is right, is right. Whatever Allah says is wrong, is wrong. (Rather than the society deciding what is best for everyone).

May Allah guide us and protect us.
