Feeling guilty for not playing with high energy puppy

Hey!! We have a 14 week old golden! We find ourselves asking the same question, but we’ve found that limiting her play time with us to about 15-30 minutes (with 15min of training sessions scattered throughout the day), giving her 1-2 walks a day and then also encouraging independent play has worked well. You can do this by praising any time pup finds a toy themselves to play with or to chew on. They catch on pretty quick that it makes you happy when they play by themselves for a bit!

Capturing calmness is also HUGE. We started really focusing on rewarding her every time she laid down on her own outside the crate about three days ago, and now she will willingly lay down on her and watch us cook, do chores around the apartment, etc. Dont be afraid to do enforced naps either, there have been times where our dog has been absolutely WILD and only been able to roam for 20-30 min, and a quick plop in the crate and an hour or two nap does the trick. Like someone mentioned previously, pups are similar to toddlers in they may not understand when they’re tired or need to go back to sleep. Good luck, the first days and week or two are the absolute hardest, but it does get better!!
