Feeling like issues with substance abuse aren’t “bad enough” to justify being sober.

You don't even have to have a substance "problem" to benefit from cutting substances out of your life. You are sober if you are not using any substances no matter where you started and if it is working for you that is great! It doesn't have to be about minimizing anyone else's experiences, either. I do not even have a substance problem, but am honestly proud when I choose something other than alcohol to manage my anxiety because of how easy it would be to develop a problem. It is a huge temptation to self medicate sometimes and there are alcoholics in my family. Any time we choose healthy coping mechanisms we should thank ourselves and be proud of ourselves. Positive reinforcement to keep it going! Good job! :)
