If Helton’s a players coach, he still had probably as much roster attrition as any other P5 program this past offseason and any USC coach in recent memory. USC had 15+ players in the transfer portal at one point in the offseason.

He seems to be a pretty polarizing figure even among the players. The players that love him, would seemingly take a bullet for him. But plenty of guys have left the program for the perception that he seems to use favoritism and seniority to justify playing time instead of objectively basing it on pure talent. There have been rumblings of a several potential transfers if the current staff remains in tact. Recent starting CB Isaac Taylor Stuart is one in particular that has been outspoken with his unhappiness on social media in the last few weeks. Hunter Echols is another potential transfer as well as some of the older WRs.
