Female Belgian weightlifter says allowing New Zealand transgender athlete Laurel Hubbard to compete in the women's event at the Tokyo Olympics is 'a bad joke'

It's unfair in the sense that a transwoman will beat biological women almost (if not every) time. Sure in order to compete at those levels, people tend to be genetically "blessed" like having broad shoulders in swimmimg or long legs in running etc...You don't get to be at that level without having some luck. But because all top athletes have those genetic advantages, it evens out the level playing field. What then distinguishes the very best is their incredible hard work. Now if a trans woman were to compete with women, they would have so many physical advantages that hard work and lots of training won't help biological women beat them. A trans woman who was an average player at their sport as a male, will surely always be at the top in the female category. Most 15 year old boys who play professionally in a sport will beat the top adult female adults in that same sport. You can't compare men and women in their physical capabilities. Men are just so much stronger then women, and letting a trans woman who has gone through male puberty compete agaibst women is unfair, unjust and takes away women's space in their own category. There's a reason we separate by sex. If we didn't, women would never even be able to enter the competitions.

Also testosterone levels in biological males who take estrogen is still 5 times higher than a female and still higher than females with above average testosterone levels (due to PCOS for example). You add in muscle mass, height, bone density, hemoglobin levels...it's not comparable and remains unfair. The fact that they can even compete after only one year on hormones is unfair as well as their testosterone levels are still very high. There's no way around. Sports should stay separated by sex.
