Sorry, to clarify, where I’m from in Canada, being a firefighter is actually an extremely competitive job. It is difficult to get into any station, let alone a big one. My brother who always wanted to work in EMS actually ended up enrolling in the military, being trained as firefighter there, and taking his discharge after 2 years, all so he could have a better shot of being accepted. All that, and it still took him 6 months to get into a small department far away in Stratford (yes where the Biebs is from) where almost nothing ever happens other than the aforementioned occasional Bieber sighting. The only firefighters who are out of shape here are chiefs, captains, and volunteers, and even they seem to have weird old man strength.
