Female human have period. Why don't female cats and dogs and other female mammals have period?

Saying that animals which have an estrus but not menstruation is itself really really really picking at nits.

On top of that, the Wikipedia article itself is inconsistent. It starts by saying that only a few animals menstruate, then later on it changes its verbiage and calls what people do (shedding and bleeding of the lining) overt menstruation and what many others do (shedding but reabsorption) covert menstruation.

Therefore I strongly believe you're adding confusion by attempting to pick a nit which isn't even there.

Not to mention that many mammals which "technically" have estrus / covert menstruation (such as dogs) frequently bleed externally.
