Female Soldiers: what has been your experience in the army?

I’ve spent half of my time in the Army (just over 4 years) without women in my unit and half with. I was never super against women in combat arms but also not super stoked about it. My first female soldier completely changed my mind.

She was one the best soldiers I’ve ever had the pleasure of training and mentoring to this day and generally one of the most unique people I’ve ever met in the Army. 100% one of those people that don’t need any part of the Army at all and we’ll be worse as an organization when she leaves.

Out of the 11 or 12 women that we got, 2 or 3 were/are terrible and shouldn’t be in the Army, another 7-8 are kind of just there and two (including mine) are straight fucking killers. Kind of like the same ratios you’d find in your average group of male soldiers.

I’ve been thinking about writing a longer post on this topic because I’ve gotten questioned on it and seen it brought up and I think I have a good perspective on it. I spent my whole time in the box last NTC rotation as the only male on a 4 man tank crew lol. Treated them exactly like I would males and didn’t have a problem.

TL:DR Some women suck and the stereotypes are true, others are great soldiers and it’s not like we’re going to gender-segregate the Army again so they’re here to stay.
