As a feminist, do you believe that more steps be taken to change areas where men are less successful than women?

Not quite, I believe the goal of feminism is to give women freedom. I believe women are oppressed in our current society and I want them to be liberated. I don’t see equality and women’s liberation to be exactly synonymous because equality implies for women to have what men have and what men have will not create freedom for women. I don’t think what men have is good so I don’t see it as desirable for women. I don’t want women to sexually assault others as much as men do, i don’t want women to be as violent, I don’t want women to be CEO’s more and exploit the working class as much as men because this will only serve to oppress working class women.

The liberation of women would have to include all women, liberal feminist ideals like being a “girlboss” don’t appeal to me because although they would serve a small group of women they harm a far greater group of women (lower class women) who don’t receive the full value of their labor. Therefore I’d consider it more harmful to women’s liberation than progressive.

I believe that when women are liberated men will be liberated as well and this would create harmony between the sexes and be the closest to equality. I view the liberation of women as destruction of patriarchal ideals and capitalist society. I see men as oppressed only on the basis of class, excluding men of color who also face race based oppression.

It really just depends. If I know the girl and not the male student then yes I’d advise her to improve even if it was to his detriment, if I knew the male student and not the girl I’d advise him to improve even if it was to her detriment. In the situation I don’t personally know either of them I’d be more encouraging to whoever is struggling more because they need it more. The female student being female wouldn’t be something I’d consider relevant to who I’d help improve.
