Fernando Alonso: Formula 1 should pay fans to watch boring cars

You seem to be confusing fascination, amazement and interest with entertainment, in fact most of your reply was hyperbole.

I'm glad you can read my mind.

You say you love 'the way these guys have to constantly change settings', does that mean you are entertained by the fact that drivers have to change brake balance, brake migration, ERS settings and so on?

Yes I'm entertained by how they use these complex systems to get every bit of performance out of their cars, I enjoy the mental aspect of the sport.

so in that case are you entertained by every single car on the grid at all times whenever they are moving?

Yeah basically, they're the closest things to fighter jets on the ground and I genuinely could watch onboards all day. In fact I have some of my favorite pole positions from Lewis stored on my laptop and I watch them routinely.

It seems like you are actually confusing engineering with racing altogether.

It seems you're defying what others should find entertainment in. I'm studying engineering, I love cars, thus F1 entertains me.

You continue saying that the cars and drivers are amazing but what's the point if they're going round very rarely overtaking and racing each other?

I don't know if you've only been focused on the front end of the grid but there's been great racing in almost every race this year bar Baku and Hungary. This isn't Nascar or Indy where you're going to get constant overtaking, I can accept that and it makes the battles even more entertaining because I realize how much tougher it is.

You didn't mention racing at all so I assume you're not actually interested in it and are simply interested in the cars, in which case you'd get more entertainment out of looking up the engineering side to the cars than watching a race.

Again, I love racing, I like watching cars go wheel to wheel and battle each other. I don't know why this is such a hard concept for you to grasp but I can like both the engineering and the racing.

But of course you're not actually that interested, you're just finding reasons to justify your interest in the sport which are mostly irrelevant to the actual racing.

Dude I gotta know, where did you learn how to read minds?

All this has been going on for about 40+ years, Alonso hasn't just randomly come out and said the cars are boring for no reason, the racing is dull and not competitive, which is partly why half the audience has left in the past 10 years.

That sucks for them, I still love it and I still am going to wake up at stupid hours of the morning to watching something as inconsequential as practice session. I can't speak for others.
