A few lines that completely destroy the bad joke that is "New Atheism"--especially of the Harris and Dawkins variety...AKA, biologists with zero physics education rambling like half-wits

I'd recommend reading Schrodinger's "What is Life?: The Physical Aspect of the Living Cell" along with "What is Life?: The Intellectual Pertinence of Erwin Schrödinger" (2011), published by Stanford University Press.

The Stanford book explicitly calls the current paradigm of genetics the Schrodingerian perspective because Crick and Watson made their discoveries and won their Nobel Prize entirely based on reading Schrodinger's book--that, combined with Crick's love of tripping on LSD.

Schrodinger SINGLE HANDEDLY invented all of molecular biology, which is what genetics has become today. That is not an overstatement. He was not a decisive force, he was THE decisive force.

We feel clearly that we are only now beginning to acquire reliable material for welding together the sum total of all that is known into a whole; but, on the other hand, it has become next to impossible for a single mind fully to command more than a small specialized portion of it. I can see no other escape from this dilemma (lest our true who aim be lost for ever) than that some of us should venture to embark on a synthesis of facts and theories, albeit with second-hand and incomplete knowledge of some of them -and at the risk of making fools of ourselves. So much for my apology.

That was from the preface to "What is Life?," regarded as THE most important work of theoretical biology of the entire 20th century. In the whole history of biology, I would rank it second only to Darwin's "On the Origins of the Species" as to its impact on the field.

Schrodinger was a physicist on par with Darwin as a biologist. Honoring the man as such isn't silly at all.
