A Few Members of UCLA's Student Council Tried To Hide This Video Of 4 Of Them Questioning A Jewish Student.

(copy pasted from /r/losangeles, some things will be obvious to UCLA students) This is more complicated than it might seem. UCLA has a very strong jewish student body, Hillel. They are often fiercely defensive of Israeli foreign policy, and enjoy bombarding everyone's news feed about the latest news on anti-semetism on campus. Sometimes it's very difficult to talk to students that are in Hillel, because it fosters an environment that doesn't promote dialogue, but fierce defensiveness of any criticism on Israeli foreign policy. I once attended a Bruin Republicans, Bruin democrats debate on American foreign policy and a discussion sparked afterwards between attending students on Israel. The first student talked about how we don't do enough to protect Israel from neighboring countries, the second student disagreed and stated that Israel should re-negotiate with Palestinians before we give them any more aid. Barely a well reasoned argument, but this sparked a vitriol from a third student wearing a Hillel shirt and proclaiming "You just want to see Israel burn". I tried defending him "Give the guy a chance to speak" and her friend chimed in "You're just a jew-hater". Seriously? I understand passion, but students in this group are VERY adamant about their opinions. The particular student is also part of a Jewish sorority (it's not incorrect that the board member said that the candidate has strong affiliations with jewish communities, but as you will see it doesn't even matter).

This is separate from the fact that most student boards at UCLA are a complete joke. They have the same self-centeredness, self-interest undertones of modern politics. The students that run them sometimes start well-meaning, but quickly devolve into a system where most student view the student board as a spring board towards internships, another line to add on their resume. The whole divestment movement was a fucking joke, just novice political bickering from students who want to stroke their own egos instead of dealing with actual local, tougher UCLA student problems (classroom maintenance, fund management, student/prof ratio, TA/professors relationships and curriculum management). Student board members will shit on you around campus during election season, send you facebook messages and once elections are over you won't hear a peep. It's basically a mini Ohio during election time, and it's fucking disgusting. How bout the time when the student board decided to almost double their stipend after months of debate, during summer break when the campus was empty and students could no longer protest (http://dailybruin.com/2013/08/07/usac-votes-to-increase-councilmember-stipend/). There are also several people at UCLA who actually hate the Israeli government. Their opinions are not always routed on facts, and mostly on emotion and it's very problematic. But I have yet to encounter students who are openly anti-semetic. This might be problematic itself, one might argue, because people might be anti-semetic but not express it. I'm inclined to agree, but this is harder to quantify. All I can say is that I have never spoken to a UCLA student who has made anti-semetic remarks. The closest I have heard is something along the lines of "if the jews didn't want their holy land so much, we would be at peace". This reeks of misinformation and bias, but not extreme anti-semetism. (This is personal bias, btw, and formed from my experiences.)

Conclusion

So, I want you to take the context and apply it in this situation. Every single person in this situation just wants ATTENTION. The person who asked that question probably just wants attention. The people defending her, attention. The reporter who wrote this, attention. And the actual adults who run UCLA will say anything to keep their own asses safe, and the student boards are gonna continue masturbating as they always have. Don't let this bullshit distract you from the fact that most UCLA students are actually pretty mild and malleable in their opinions. Crap like this just widens the gap instead of bridging it.

Extra Butter Just so you can confirm that these are just kids playing with their legos, just look at the play by play (https://www.usac.ucla.edu/documents/minutes/Minutes%202%2010%2015.pdf). Actually, the way I see it is all of them huddling in a circle, jerking off and trying to see who cums first (or last). And the fucking president of USAC (the student government) is Jewish and is in Hillel, so get the fuck out of here with your "anti-semetic" bullshit.

*4 year UCLA student, never a part of social or political groups but always interested and attended a lot of cultural, political events, have jewish friends in Hillel, jewish friends who are not in Hillel, friends who were on USAC or campaigned for USAC elections. *

If anyone is interested I can copy paste discussions from different people that I've had on Israeli foreign policy at UCLA and you can see from a primary source what i mean
