Few things feel as great as receiving a birthday surprise

Something similar happened to me recently.

My dad passed away six years ago and left me his beautiful '79 cherry sunburst Les Paul. I've been an amateur musician for awhile but the guitar is worth more than my car so I've always been a bit hesitant to take it out of the case, let alone plug it in. It also reminds me of my dad, so it kind of makes me sad to play. Well this past weekend, I was at a family cookout and my grandfather mentioned that he'd been researching Les Pauls online just to see what my dad's would be worth. He doesn't seem like he'd ever want me to sell it, I think it just reminds him of my dad and it makes him happy to think about. Nobody but me has seen the guitar in ages and they were all kind of surprised I still have it. Now nobody had said it outloud, but I could tell they'd all secretly love to see it.

While everyone was talking, I slipped out the back and rushed back to my house to grab the guitar. I walked back into the cookout with the guitar and once their eyes saw it, I could see tears build up in my grandfather, grandmother, and my dad's two brothers' eyes. We spent the rest of the cookout talking about my dad and remembering the good times with him.
