FIFA VP David Rutter: "..I'm lucky enough to be the father of two amazing little girls, and both of them play FIFA a lot....My youngest is a fantastic soccer player and she loves it. It doesn't really compute [for them] that there wouldn't be women in the game."

See, he's not wrong. Fuck this entire backlash has been misconstrued as "Women shouldn't play soccer/be in the game lelelelololol". But really all it's been is

"What? This is the big feature you're going to open with? Who the fuck asked for this??? You're joking right? You know we desperately want you to fix the AI and the game, and this is what you show us?"

Nobody outside of edgy 12 year olds is saying this shouldn't be there. In fact it's good it's there. (Although I wish EA didn't decide that men v women wasn't allowed. I don't give a shit if it's one sided and unrealistic. It's not like they wont boost the womens stats anyway, so I don't see why not. Actually I do. It's to stop those 12 year olds from taking rapey images of the in game physics engine, and then having tumblrinas get mad).

EA could've avoided most of this by showing some better AI first. Tell us some bullshit about how GKs now do intelligent ball tracking or some buzzwordy horse crap. Yeah we all know it's bullshit, but we want to hear it.

Then follow it up with this. People would just go "lolwtf okay whatever" because it's just another game feature.

Instead this is going to blow up and get soccer fans and fifa players labeled as highly sexist.

Also as for the argument that it will get women into the sport? Why the hell would it do that. Fans of soccer that happen to be women are already into the sport, and watch primarily mens soccer, and women that aren't into it, won't pick up a sudden interest in it because suddenly boobs are in the game.

Yes this entire thing highlights the immaturity of the community, but I don't think it's entirely unwarranted. Stupid and a gross overreaction? Yeah, no doubt.

TL;DR; It's a good thing, and I don't think anyone is saying otherwise. However EA should've opened with something else, because really only fans of the FIFA games care about this announcement (and media outlets that love to play the equality SJW bullshit card). So open with something to appease them more, and then don't hype up your core community like this.

Really who other than EA sports fifa fans was even paying attention to this announcement? Yet for some reason they chose to target a demographic that doesn't even really pay attention to it? Bad PR move. But whatever.
