Final Draft 9 is on sale at the moment (40% off). Is it worth the buy?

Sorry, industry standard is Final Draft.

This sub is full of whiny FD haters, but pretty much literally everyone who is anyone in the industry uses FD. Some like it some don’t. Boo-lawdy-hoo. I happen to like it. A lot. I have never lost work using it. it formats the damn screenplay. ut has loads of features if and when I need them.

Seriously, unless you plan to be an amateur for the rest of your life (and that's okay if that's truly your intention), why would you use anything other than the industry standard? Nothing makes this sub look more amateurish than pissing into the wind on this issue.

It reminds me of when I worked in commercial still-life photography. Everyone who was anyone used Sinar equipment. It was the industry standard. People that DIDN'T work in the industry or were third-stringers would always say such-and-such was just as good or “better” blah, blah, blah (and cheaper too! Woo-hoo!). They would ask me what I think. I told them what I think. Sinar is the industry standard. And you know what? It actually is better in a lot of subtle and not so subtle ways. there is usually a perfectly good reason why something is the industry standard and that's just as true for FD no matter how hand-wavey and but-but-but you get about it. End of discussion. If you really want to be a professional screenwriter you will need to acquire and lean how to properly use FD and get really good at using it. When are you going to start using it? The first day on the job in a writer's office when literally every person in the office has already been using FD for ten years including the assistants that are making your coffee? Fool, you show up with one of the wannabee-screenwriting-industry standard-also-rans that want to capitalize on FD’s success, you just look—what’s the word I’m looking for? Not too bright. You’re not doing anything to help yourself in a fledgling professional career championing a hopeful that’s not really in the money. That's a suckers bet, baby.

Pros use the industry standard, amateurs champion the new flavor of the day. Pick a side and downvote all you want, I could care less. FD is the industry standard. It’s what the majority of pros use and until that changes significantly, it’s what I'm going to use.

I don’t have ANY problems with FD. Maybe it’s because I paid $250 dollars for a fully licensed copy and didn’t pirate it. Who knows.

Step up to the industry standard and deal with it like a grown-up and quit whining like a little bitch that it ain’t perfect. Nor am I and nor are you. Improve yourself before you start slamming a product that gets the job done for the biggest names in the biz.

Save me all the but-but-but bullshit about how BAD FD is (and how bad my attitude is on this matter). I use it every fucking day. It’ fine.
