Final Fantasy 9 teaches us about war and how times have changed

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Final Fantasy 8. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of the junctioning system most of the references will go over a typical player's head. There’s also Squall’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from German Idealist literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these monologues, to realise that they’re not just dark and edgy- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Final Fantasy VIII truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in Squall's existential catchphrase “...Whatever,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Simple Plan's American epic "Welcome to my Life". I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Garden Master NORG's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them.
