FINALLY getting an IUD!

They absolutely do work well for many women who have not had children! But they do have more negative effects on women who have not had children as well. I'm not trying to scare her, I'm simply telling her my personal experience, and then some facts to go along with it. IUD's are considered 'safe' but doctors still don't know how they work exactly. At least, that's what my OB said. And because of that, they have absolutely no way of knowing just how it might affect your body. Many women develop ovarian cysts. Many women develop scarring on their uterine walls. Many women completely expel the device and don't realize until much later. I'm just saying, if your only reason for the switch is not wanting to take a pill every day and dealing with bad side effects, You're in for a ruuuude awakening. There are so many other options that don't involve a daily dose and have different hormone options. Jumping straight to an IUD especially at a young age (as I assume OP is fairly young, based on the constant reference to her mother) is a little much.
