FIRE and Bipolar Disorder

In order to go on disability you have to have no assets or savings at all. I would not spend everything I've earned in order to get help. Instead you should take a leave of absence from work (perhaps FMLA) and check into an outpatient program. I kniw many people who have done that, including my own sister and a few friends and it helped them tremendously.

If your career is too stressful for you, you should definitely reevaluate and find something else after you've cared for your mental health.

But forgive me for assuming that you are in the US. Because if you are, the disability system is set up in a way that you are not allowed to have any savings or own any property whatsoever.
