First cheerleaders, then referees, now coaches. Bill Burr explains how women are sick of men enjoying football and having fun without them, so they're infiltrating.

No hatin' on Babymetal!

Say what you want to about their WTF factor but they got the talent. They live mic as opposed to lip-sync...which is a big deal in terms of meritocracy in J-pop. Su-Metal is as good a singer as any Western "clean" vocalist in metal. Yuimetal and Moametal put in a lot of time dancing their little asses off to get where they are. Plus they are vetted in an industry that regularly chews up little girls and spits them out.

Having said that, they are managed by a man, Kobametal. Might have something to do with it.

But I heartily disagree that they are looking to make metal more female friendly. If anything it's the opposite... they come off as an attempt to bring a metal sensibility to feminine J-pop. I think they're doing a fine job.

Babymetal is actually a spinoff of a school-themed J-pop group called Sakura Gakuin, or "Cherry Blossom Academy" ...very milquetoast and wholesome. As part of the school theme, SG has several "clubs" consisting of about three band members each. There's the Cooking Club, the Baton Club, the Journalism Club, etc. ...each with their own name and themed costumes. All cute as a button.

Babymetal started as one of the clubs...the Heavy Music Club. Turns out that thanks to Youtube, they really resonated outside of Japan among actual metalheads. Their label, realizing they had a hit on their hands, had to adapt quickly and managed to follow up on Babymetal's success quite effectively.

Bear in mind, concurrent with the video that /u/redpillbanana posted, they were also doing this kind of shit. Note that all three members of Babymetal are prominent in this video.

Now, I will defend Babymetal like the whitest of the white knights. However there are several knockoff acts that are starting to piss me off. I would argue that while BM is wholesome and pure, these knockoffs are, in fact, trying to be more female friendly to appeal to gaijin. Ladybaby is especially cringeworthy.
