"The first gulp..." - Heisenberg [403x403]

If these concepts are based in scientific fact and observable then they are called something else. Saying they are scientific fact and backing that statement up with proof or just making the statement and leaving it flat are two different things. Chi (spiritual energy) and yin and yang (balance of spiritual energy or sometimes touted as balance in everything) are by definition beyond nature therefore supernatural. I will admit Buddhism has said a lot on the subject of exploring ones consciousness but it could get the root of its teachings a lot quicker without all of the, what Michael Shermer would call, 'woo-woo'.

If there is to be a true happiness to be found it should be found inside ones own mind, away and distanced from the immediate impulses we fulfill, this is a core teaching of Buddhism as I understand it, however, you've interpreted its teachings to mean almost precisely the opposite. On this we have come to different 'truths' about a concept based on our interpretations. This is precisely why objective morality should be our discussion instead of some loose-weave and relativistic-born tolerance based morality that is derived from 'within ones own spiritual journey'. If it's all good to fulfill your moment to moment impulses then many people could justify some pretty horrific shit. We should, as peoples of higher levels of thought, be able to come to a common moral high ground. We have seen this as a common thread amongst most religions, if stated differently the ideas remain the same: do unto others as you would have them do unto you, everyone is a teacher and a student, love your enemies, etc.

We could let go of these ideas that hold us back from this common knowledge or continue to muddy the waters by believing in things based on faith and good internal feelings.

Don't get me wrong, religions DO provide a service but those useful services do not need to cling to their supernatural origins: community, experiencing 'the one becoming the many', the mental benefits of prayer, charity, etc. all these benefits are the effect of HUMANS taking part in a belief system it is why all major religions practice these ideas in one way or another.

I'm talking about something beautiful as an idea and a practice, you are talking about spiritual energy and patterns which is confusing and vulnerable to misinterpretation? If you can provide proof of Chi, li, yin and yang, and they aren't already known by other names like gravity, radiation, magnetism, etc. etc. then I'll change my mind. Use them as a metaphor for the understanding of consciousness and spiritual health and you muddy the waters and take yourself and others away from objective truth. That which I can do with a healthy mind I should be able to teach others of sound mind in the same manner I can teach someone to play baseball or use a computer mouse. Einstein said something to this effect rather succinctly, "If you cannot explain it simply then you do not understand it fully." ...or something to that effect.

I'm not ignorant of Taoist, Daoist, or Buddhist beliefs, I've researched them a bit as I study and unravel different religions. I started with the religion I was inculcated in (Southern U.S. Baptist) and have moved on from there through Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, etc. and on.
