"The first gulp..." - Heisenberg [403x403]

God could be a magic teapot... An invisible dragon in my garage...

If the concept is so loose-weave and useless as to be ineffectual then it is just a pretty idea, a fancy.

When I contend the 'god' concept I contend against the idea of a moral code passed down through religion. The 'god' concepts that found a virtue of blind faith that lead fellow humans to do horrible acts via dogmatic decree, without question.

I do not contend that a god or gods do not exist, as it is by definition a statement about the supernatural and therefore beyond what we could ever know. I contend that there is a god-concept put forth by religions that is rife with bad ideas that lead my fellow humans down into moral valleys that they otherwise wouldn't tread, except when accepting a belief on blind faith.

Your version is a fancy idea that has no effect on our lives at best or posits science as a religion at worst. If the prime mover is our full understanding of the universe then why call it god? Why worship it?

Science is a tool and our understanding of the universe is how we explain it via scientific pursuits. Calling that 'god' because we are in awe of the facts that it shows is giving a lot of credit to the feeling of awe.

I feel as if there is a god-concept that is being popularized due to the overwhelming decree of all religions for tolerance. Some generalistic feel-good concept that applies the idea of a god over gaps in scientific knowledge, or the mystic unknown, and I take issue with it.

This type of tolerance derived never interfering prime mover concept only justifies and hides the bad ideas promoted through mainstream religions. It justifies blind faith and belief in something as fact without having evidence for that belief.

Mainstream religion and any idea that asks you to submit your subjective truths over objective truths asks you to deviate from reality. It allows people to act in ways that do not comport to reality. It flies planes into buildings. It creates an environment where a father believes that murdering his daughter will preserve her honor. It makes killing an act of love or a divine imperative.

So if you claim a god then you need to prove it as you have made the extraordinary claim. I only ask for extraordinary evidence. Otherwise if it doesn't effect our reality and cannot be measured or shown to exist it doesn't. It is as important and as effectual as Santa clause, the tooth fairy, grumpkins, or magic teapots orbiting our moon.
