First time playing FPL, need guidance !

I have in the past coerced people to join FPL and they want some tips/advice in selecting a team. Here is what I send them as the begin their FPL adventure/addiction. As Barbossa would say, these are more guidelines than rules. Share what you think should be included (I plan on copying for the next victim who I talk into beginning their FPL addiction lol)

Formation to use: 3-4-3

Position GK = 1 Premium and 1 Cheap (4.0 to 4.5), or Rotation of 2 Mid Table, Total spend 9.5 Position Def = 2 Premium, 1 Mid Price (4.5 to 5.0), 2 Cheap (both 4.0 if possible), Total spend 24.5 Position MF = 2 Premium, 2 Mid Price, 1 Cheap (4.5), Total spend 35 Position F = 2 Premium, 1 Mid Price, Total Spend 31

  • Put all your money in the starting 11, money on the bench scores you no points
  • Make sure you bench players play weekly (2 pts is better than no points)
  • Keep faith in premium players, stay with them unless injured
  • Buy and set defense and leave alone barring injury or a complete inability to get clean sheets
  • Transfer in and out the mid price mf or f to take advantage of favorable match ups
  • MF's who play the 10 role are better for both goals and assists vs other mf's
  • Don’t chase transfer dollars, if your team value goes up, then it happens.
  • Don’t be afraid to pull the trigger for a transfer on Monday if there are no mid week games to avoid higher price
  • Don’t lose points on extra transfers, 9 times out of 10 the extra moves don’t pay off
  • Use triple captain on premium player during a double game week
  • Use bench boost when most bench players have double game weeks
  • Beware of Carlos Kickaball, make sure they prove themselves before you anoint them a premium player
  • Maintain a balanced team, not too many from 1 team
  • Spend 1/3 of your dollars on gk and def, and 2/3 on mf and f
  • if having a mf and f from the same team, that team should be in the top 4 most goals scored
  • Always get the best scoring player for the year, jump on the bandwagon early or late
  • The difference between a good week and a great week is 3 or more on defense with clean sheets
  • Wait to use 1st wildcard until after 1st international break or 5th game week
