And if you think a vet won't punch you in the face for insulting his honor and sense of duty with your little speech, you will be VERY disappointed, tough guy!

Maybe some would, and that would only make my point.

Vets fought either because the government made them, or because they signed up for it.

If the government made them, then I'm deeply sorry for what you were forced into, but all parties involved know Vietnam had nothing to do with protecting my rights. He knew when he got on the plane it had nothing to do with my rights, he knew as he was napalming villages that it had nothing to do with my rights, he knew as he was breathing agent orange that it had nothing to do with my rights, but we decide to plaster over all of that with words like "honor" and "duty" and "fighting for our freedoms" to help pacify the self-disgust and inner revulsion these soldiers feel at the things they had to do.

If they signed up for it, then they knew what they were doing. They needed a job. The government was willing to pay them to shoot at people. It's not any more complicated than that.

If the goals of the military had anything to do with protecting my rights, I'd see the military in airports shooting at TSA officers. I'd see the military in inner cities shooting at cops who abuse citizens without due process. I'd see the military in Washington DC shooting FBI agents spying on Americans without warrants. They wouldn't be shooting at random people in a desert on the other side of the globe.

The military fights for the interests of politicians, and they get paid to do it. The interests of politicians rarely have anything to do with my rights. And that's about it.
