Legal advice aside, Sorry your family is like that? I don't see how treating you exactly how the outside world treats you is productive in a 'family'... but i understand that's your reality, and probably many others. you can just call the jail. If it's your parents property, only they can provide permission to police to enter. I would not mention that the landlord are your parents to the police. As far as your roommate goes, if you want to help him that's your business, we don't know the full details. You're going have to ask him straight up if he wants to continue paying rent while he's dealing with that stuff and notify that if not you're going to receive rent then you're going to rent his room to a new person temporarily or whatever and you'll have to move his stuff to some secure location or maybe he can call a friend to come pick it up, give you money for a storage unit? look if you want to help him, the answer is obvious, you let him slide on the rent for a bit until he gets out of jail, and i guess smooth it over with your 'landlord'. this on paper should be easier than people who don't have landlords that are family, but we dont know your family ... lol
