The Flagrant Ones: “Discussing Moneyball”

That’s my point. The idea that the focus of the protests is entirely dependent on whether or not there is professional basketball is arrogant. It’s bigger than that. No one says this about baseball, college, or professional football. Not many are objecting to those sports coming back because it’s will distract from protests of systematic racism. There is something dog whistle-y about this mainly being about the NBA.

Real wholesale change of systemic racism and policing rooted in centuries of malfeasance, bigotry, and wrongdoing is going to take a lot longer than a summer to fix.

Yes there are corporate forces at play and from what I’ve read, the owners of the teams are not required to come to Orlando with their teams, which is problematic. And unfortunately, the same system that pays the owners, corporations, and advertisers also pays the players and other workers. Ideally, the billionaires that own these teams that play in partially and sometimes fully taxpayer funded arenas, should be helping more. But missing the rest of the season will give the owners more leverage in the next CBA and the players may lose their roughly 50/50 split of revenue. The result is low to minimum salary players that don’t have the endorsement money of the marquee players being screwed.
