Flicks Change My View Thread

This thread is called change my view, not make the impossible happen. A bad movie is a bad movie. I don't think you're going to find anyone trying to convince you otherwise unless they want to do so for fun to play devil's advocate.

If you want to understand how it got such a high rating then it is because on the surface it seems appealing, and has ScarJo in it coupled with Morgan Freeman who is the most overrated actor outside of serious film aficionados who can see through his half-assed type casted roles he gets, but I can't really blame him, if it works for him, and he doesn't mind then I can't complain too much. They also advertised it a bit, and it came out in July. I saw Lucy which entertained me when I didn't try and think too logically, at least until the end where all I could do was laugh. I also see a bunch of terrible movies that I hate over the summer.

Partly because some of my friends and family have different taste, and because at least in California it is super hot, and no one wants to really be outside unless they're near a beach or body of water. As for critics, that is 67%, so by academic standards that would still be a failing grade. It is consider fresh, but not by much. From the audience perspective it falls below 50%. I personally don't worry about all of the critics anyway. I follow specific sites, and then usually specific writers because they seem to know their stuff from my mostly casual perspective, and I tend to agree with them. If a critic you like enjoyed the movie, I wouldn't consider it a travesty. The only way I suppose you could really understand why it is fresh is if you were to ask some of those critics that enjoyed it, and figure out why. Or research that writer's other film critques and understand where they're coming from. Maybe they have an entire catalog of not so great movies that they gave a positive review.
