Florida man goes to airport with nearly $200,000 in cash, has it seized by the government, which refuses to give it back

Yep my dad owns a small transport company and was selling a JCB for like couple of grand it was taking up space at the yard he was renting, got payed in cash due to being easier, had all the paper work for it , it wasn’t an under the table type deal. Their was a other lad that also rented the yard my dad and this guy only had neighbour like relationship, (friendly). It turned out that this guy smuggled goods from an other country ( no idea what he smuggled) long story short police came and arrested him.

However it just happened to be that my dad had sold the JCB on the same day in the morning so still had the cash in the car and stayed at the yard to do some maintenance on his other equipment as you would aspect the police also quested my dad when they saw him there. He gave them all the info they wanted and they also wanted to search his equipment and car if he was part of this and had anything on him, of course they didn’t and the police didn’t find anything but they did find the money and well they seized it, my dad showed them that the prof were he got the money from but the police weren’t haven’t any of it and took it and arrested him. The bullshit reason why they took is simply sums to the fact that my dad comes from the same region of the world as the smugglers so “ he must have been involved in some way” well after couple of hours it was clear that my dad wasn’t involved what so ever and they dropped any charges against him but after over a year my dad still hasn’t got the money back, my dad’s lawyer said that there isn’t even a point trying to get the money back until the case is fully closed and that can take multiple years and a year on that to get that money back.
