Florida sheriff comes out against arming teachers: 'Teachers should teach'

Here’s a thought;

Increase funding for mental health services across the country and lower the cost so people can actually go.

Introduce mental health wellness courses in high schools across the country to help teens learn how to handle emotions and deal with their problems in ways that are constructive and meaningful to them - also use this opportunity to have trained psychologists understand what the students in their school are going through.

Make it extremely difficult for someone who shouldn’t own a weapon of mass destruction to own one - for example, if you purchase an assault rifle you should need to go through 8 hours of safety training every year and renew the guns registration. You should only be able to purchase a weapon after extensive background checks and a waiting period of at least a month. You should not be able to purchase dozens of assault rifles...and if you do have multiple, you should be taxed for owning them. The secondary sale of weapons should not be legal, including selling back to a gun store. A gun should have 1 owner for its useful life, and when an owner decides to get rid of it the government should buy the weapon back at fair value. This way the transfer of the weapon stays on the books.

Increase police presence at schools, but have them be civilian looking so the students don’t get irked. Have the officers interact with the students and know what’s happening in the school.

Oh and how about the IC actually does their jobs and follows up on leads. People reported the shooter as a threat and the FBI dropped the ball...

Or we can just talk about arming already severely overwhelmed and under funded teachers...anyone who’s met/knows/has attended public school knows teachers are usually some of the kindest hearted people out there. To imagine any of my teachers packing heat...insane.
