FNAF creator Scott Cawthon announces retirement after recent controveries surrounding his political beliefs/donations. FNAF fans debate whether Twitter cancel cancel has gone too far or if it is ok to criticize people who fund republican politicians.

Literally the only thing Cawthon has ever done that I think is a good thing, is recognising that being "famous" especially "Internet famous" is a fucking shitshow. Get paid and get out while you can. Being at the centre of a cult of personality, even a teeny fucking tiny one, is a nightmare for most people. If you can pick a moment where you've got as much as you're ever going to get out of whatever the fuck made you internet famous, and then just punch out to quiet anonymity? That's the fucking gold standard. I wish more content creators / popular figures would do that in general.

Cawthon's faith and politics were pretty gross to me and I'm not unhappy in any way about him shutting up and hopefully never being someone that I'm aware of again. But a lot of content creators I liked have gotten tough breaks because fandoms are fucking weird and intense and a bunch of people who just made neat stuff ended up the central figures for these weird cults of personality with all the downsides of real fame, but usually fuck all money. So many people keep pushing for that rush of being popular no matter how much it sucks for them.
