Folks who make $100k+ a year, what do you do for work and how long did it take you to get there?

I'm a program manager in tech. I manage engineering projects but I do not code as part of my job (though I did learn in college).

It took me about 4-5yrs out of college to pass the $100k base salary line. I was making more than $100k with bonuses and stock options, but I suspect that what OP wants is that guaranteed base salary of $100k+

It's worth mentioning that I live in a high cost of living area. At the time I graduated, if you wanted to live alone, the crappiest 1bdrm apartment cost you $1500/mo and if you wanted something that didn't totally suck you had to go more into the $2000-2500/mo mark.

I lived with roommates until I was 28, and that helped me save a ton of money -- at that age I had $60,000-$100,000 more in pure savings than my friends who wanted to live alone right out of the gate.
