Follow-up to CCAF Student Services Outage

I work at AU (not in CCAF). The new SIS is a complete shit show. All AU/AFIT schools must use this system. It went “live” back in February and it straight up does not work. They phased in each organization with the thought they’d tweak school-specific problems with each phase. They weren’t able to keep up with the deluge of problems.

There are two parts to the system: the student-facing site (originally called Fiori, now called the AU Learner Portal) where students can apply for classes and pull transcripts/certificates (the interface straight up does not work) and the back side where the schools operate (the registration/ booking automated process is broken). The new Enterprise Canvas is integrated into the new SIS. You have to use OKTA to get your eCanvas account. That process doesn’t work either so students don’t have access to course materials but they’re sunsetting Legacy Canvas so we don’t even have that as a back up. We’ve had to move classes onto other platforms like Mil Suite and Zoom so students will have access. Everything was supposed to be automated but nothing works so we have to everything manually, and everything takes 10-12 steps.

I was around during the conversion from PCIII to MilPDS. This makes that look like a walk in the park. We’re screwed, students are screwed…like I said…a complete shit show.
