Food market at centre of deadly coronavirus outbreak admits selling live koalas, snakes, rats and wolves

Meaning that the person you originally replied to was right.

They weren't, though. I'm telling you from experience - the not all or even most Chinese people "eat without prejudice," or eat endangered animals. Frankly it doesn't seem like you understand Chinese culture particularly well. Chinese medicine isn't based on endangered animal parts, and most Chinese people do not treat their illnesses with traditional medicine. Old ladies eat ginger and drink tea as folk remedies, but that's generally the extent of it. Having grown up in China, neither I nor any of my friends or family or anyone I met ate endangered animals or wanted to. Consuming endangered species is a marker or status for a very select number of rich Chinese, and a small number of rich Chinese eat endangered animals. Not all or even most.

So to say that Chinese people "eat without prejudice" is inaccurate. This is 1.3 billion people we're talking about. If it were at all true then said endangered animals would be extinct. We can and should condemn the Chinese government without making sweeping, incorrect generalizations about the people of China or their culture.
