For a beautiful apartment, is random roommate placement worth the risk?

I did the random roommate thing in college. 4 bed/4 bath apartment. My friend and I we're able to be together so it was just 2 random roommates. But it was challenging for sure. These are just some of my thoughts/experiences

You have to think about things like if they have the same schedule as you, they might be in the common areas at the same time. Multiple people trying to cook at the same time.

Also if they bring people over, they utilize the common space like couch/TV. But you always have your room.

You may have to share stuff. Like dishes/pots and pans and throw away items like paper towels, dish soap, stuff like that. We did a buying chart to help share the cost but that may not always work.

Dishes- my roommate never did her dishes. So it limited us when pans we're dirty. And it wasn't something they were willing to change on.

Where I live someone has to put the utilities in their name like electric and cable. And we had someone move out and refuse to pay they're part when the bill come (summertime so it was a higher one)

I ended up with a bad first experience and moved out of that apartment because I could not stay with that roommate (a random one). My 2nd apt was a much better living experience and we got a long great. So it's a gamble. I hope that helps you! I'm sorry I don't have a straight forward answer!
