For her work with male victims of domestic violence, one woman became the target of vicious online abuse and harassment…in a campaign populated by those anchored in the anti violence against women movement.

I'm calling bullshit. Have we forgotten McCarthyism already? The right-wing are as guilty, if not more so, as any left-wing movement (however infantile either side's movements are) of 'thought-policing.'

And as far as thought-policing goes, I think that's a cop-out. Particularly when it only ever comes up in the defence of people who do have backward ideas. Now I'm not for witch-hunting, our conversations ought to be in the spirit of betterment, but are we really going to start pretending that it's okay to defend backward ideas like racism, nationalism, or fascism from rebuke? Are we really going to rest on our loins and accept racism, etc?

If you think blacks or women are inferior, that isn't okay. If it's 'thought-policing' to rebuke a person for that, then thought-police away.

Frankly, I find your comment a bit derailing. There are dickheads out there. They largely come as a result of the absence of any cohesive alternative to conventional politics, which are rife with contradictions and middle-class lifestylism and identity politics. If we want to steer people away from the identity politics, and steer them away from the far right, we have to provide that alternative and we have to challenge the bullshit.

"Thought-policing" claims are not a challenge to the bad shit. It's little more than a defence for backwardness under the guise of being 'moderate.'
