For Honor drops split-screen

I'm watching the IGN 1080p 60fps video right now and if there is one thing I can say about the game, it's that it looks smooth as hell.

The gameplay, however, doesn't look all that inviting to me. I've followed the game since announcement and I still can't convince myself that it is deep or fun enough to play more than 30 minutes.

As far as I can tell, it's pretty much just mindless hack n' slash combat. One-on-one fights are just trading blows until one player's health is low enough to warrant running away. Or either one of them uses revenge mode and gains a massive advantage for a comeback. Minions can be killed to the advantage of the player, but no more so than in, say, titanfall. Seems like little player skill or strategy is involved.

There seems to be zero variety in the melee fighting styles, even between each factions. Essentially just "directional swing." There seems to be little variety in gameplay, aside from "domination" (Couldn't there be different objectives on each map? NPC squads that need player support?) Is map design even relevant in a game like this?

People are comparing it to Fighting Games, but it looks undeniably less complex. Aside from a few simple meter mechanics, I can't recognize any depth beyond swinging your sword. I think Dynasty Warriors has more moves.

Meanwhile, you look at games like Soulsborne that have a wide moveset. I.e. Light attacks, strong attacks, charged strong attacks, rolling attacks, running attacks, lunging attacks, backstep attacks, backstabs, parries, 2-handed versions of each of those mentioned, weapon arts, shielding, rolling, ranged attacks, and a plethora of spells and usable items. And PVP isn't even the primary focus of the games, despite its popularity/community.

Obviously, FH is a different style of game with its own goals, namely an accessible "arcade" aesthetic with good graphics, but I don't think that should mean the game has to be shallow. I'm not trying to be pessimistic about the game, as I like the concept and want it to be good, but it just doesn't look very deep or even fun.

(Also, where's the blood?)
