On top of that, there's something that I hate to say but any savvy developer is probably well aware of at this point. Large swathes of the playerbase have made it very clear that they expect full service from any such website for free and with no downsides.

I can't imagine seeing the way users here and elsewhere have treated the hotslogs maintainer makes any prospect web developers eager to try and live off a new site that would come into being. So someone would have to do it basically out of the goodness of their heart and at a loss, basically living on hope that one day enough people would decide their work was worth paying for. That hardly seems an attractive prospect, I imagine.

Now, don't get me wrong. I've been frustrated with the way stuff has gone down with hotslogs too. I feel a lot of it has been handled poorly on both ends of the user-dev relationship. Quite frankly by now I'm looking forward to the API and seeing what springs up around it. And I'm saying this as someone who has had a hotslogs premium account since it was implemented. I also believe, however, that all people deserve to make a living wage off their work.
