For more than 14% of people who use insulin in the U.S., insulin costs consume at least 40% of their available income, a new study finds

No, they were always like this, it was just that you could ignore it before. But now the conservatives have come along to the point where they barely need pretense anymore. It's all about hierarchy. Firstly, those brave soldiers blowing up schools in the middle east and their military contractor/government benefactors by extension, are simply better than you. That's why they should get that money and you should not. People who didn't need a shot or wear a mask to get over the "deadly chinese bioweapon", those who combated it by doing literally nothing, that showed their strength and grit, and are therefore, again, your betters. This extends into race and economics as well. The whole ideology was always based off believing you and yours are superior and should therefore dictate how society is ran, but now they're getting closer to coming out and saying it.
