For people who grew up with little money, what always felt like a luxury?

i remember the only time we will have a chance to eat cake is if there's a special occasion. my parents cannot literally afford to buy it just out of cravings. we are not that poor but, money is very budgeted. every penny counts. eating meat was also a luxury at that time. as a kid back then, it was already a luxury if my mom would buy us chips. i dont know but i remember, we rarely ate chips. i only see chips from kids at school. back then, we usually eat sardines in can (you can search mega sardines) then we put some stuff like tomatoes or some veggies to make it good for a 4 person family. chicken was a also a luxury back then. it is rare for us to have roasted or fried chicken because it was kinda expensive.
