For people who were alive on September 11th 2001 what do you remember it being like on that day?

I was in England, at secondary (high) school. I usually never came home from school on time, but for some reason all my friends were busy.

I also normally never watched TV at that time as we only had the 5 channels and nothing was on at that time, but I just flicked it on out of boredom. My mum came in as I turned it on, I was going to flick past the emergency news and she said, "no no, turn it back to the news."

We saw the news about the first plane and my mum was shocked but I didn't really understand how iconic the buildings were.

And then suddenly we watched the live feed of the second plane. I remember understanding I had just seen all these people die. And I was very upset about the trapped people above, but I thought they would be saved by helicopters or something. And then the buildings collapsed.

I don't remember anything else about that day, because when I think back I just remember standing dumbfounded in front of the TV and how fragile and unpredictable life is.
