For-profit Corinthian Colleges to shut down all 28 remaining campuses

Si, its in their best interest to charge as much as is humanly possible for as little services as humanly possible.

However, they exist to fill a need... call it them covering a niche market created by market inefficiencies as such.

As an example, most have rolling enrollment in to programs throughout the year where as most public institutions limit the times you can enter.

When it comes to a lot of veterans and life after separation from service.. this "market inefficiency" can be quite problematic.

The GI-Bill gives you a housing allowance alongside college tuition to support one self and family while going to school. If no other sources of income are available having to wait for 6-8 months or a year after separation before being allowed to enter in to a public university program may not be economically feasible.

So the choice may come down to being homeless and broke while waiting or paying one of these institution for their shitty services just to make due for a time.. until something better comes up or the Gi-Bill benefits are depleted.

An other problem comes in with entry requirements things such as GRE testing requirements etc which are quite discriminatory against certain types of disabled populations who otherwise are fine students as long as they are given appropriate accommodations. (the ETS testing accommodation system for the disabled... its a joke, a horribly abusive joke.)

Factors such as those leave the door open for those who are wiling to offer a service to cover a need... even if only to abuse the peoples desperation.

From my personal experiences...

After my separation from the service I was able to get in to my Bachelors degree program immediately... however graduation fell in to a period of time where I would have had to wait for over a year without that income support to get in to a master program in my field. I found Embry-Riddle a non-profit university that filled that need.

Once I get my Masters from there I will try to pursue either a doctorate or an other masters from a public institution... assuming I can get in to a program in a reasonable time interval. If I have to wait for a year and no work materializes in the mean time... well ill have to burn through the rest of the benefits to support my self and the family going to what ever school is available then.
