Is this for real? "Indian Govt has made nearly THREE MILLION Sikhs disappear, through a disinformation campaign about the world’s Sikh population to prestigious publications like New York Times World Almanac and Book of Facts"

My opinion, others are entitled to theirs: This article comes from the Khalistan Affairs Center. They have a very obvious agenda, and are taking liberties to promote it. I just browsed through some articles, and I found a wonderful little tidbit calling New Delhi "belonging to Sikh Gurdwara lands," (even though that's patently false, the Gurdwara lands secured by Baghel Singh included areas like Chandni Chowk where the Gurdwara is still standing). Yeesh.

Directly addressing the following, I don't know if it's fear-mongering so much as pseudo-intellectual members of the community with a hawkeye on India, trying to look for every small bit of information that will somehow show that they are oppressing Sikhs.

Here's a small lesson for the sensationalist authors; a census is something that we do to determine what a population approximately is. It's generally an estimate, as there's no actual way to literally count members of a population. As with anything in statistics, numbers will fluctuate from year to year. In fact, the article mentions this, as it notes that the number climbed back up to around 24 million.

"It is obvious that the figures have been juggled around and reduced."

No, if you bothered to take a statistics class, you would realize that deducing from a random sample is always a guessing name and that numbers are never constant. In the real world, there's no magic number that's always right, it's always a range that "juggles around" that gives us an estimate to the truth.

The claim of "statistical ethnic cleansing," is making my head spin--what does that even mean? It's not a thing, and if it is, it serves absolutely no purpose for India. The article tries to make some sort of link between Sajjan Kumar and this "statistical genocide," but it's either so poorly written or thought out that I don't have a clue what exactly that is.

I am no fan of India, and if there are cases where disinformation campaigns have been made (they sure have in the past), I'm all for critically looking at it. But I think Khalistan Affairs (and again, my personal opinion) has with this article made a complete fool out of themselves and out of people interested in genuine concerns with the Indian government. It amazes me that something like the Indian government continuing to use colonial military caricatures of Sikhs is ignored but some fluctuating numbers in the censuses is what raises the red card.
