For those that have sought/received therapy, what makes a good or bad therapist?

I'm very inexperienced with therapy. I saw a post doc for 9 weeks last year for anxiety (CBT). That was the first time I have seen someone. I'm currently on a waiting list to see a new one at that same university clinic.

The big thing that lead to me wanting to see someone else was that I felt no connection and I felt like he was listening to me and trying to understand me but I got that overall impression that he didn't care. I wasn't getting much out of sessions either. Based on my limited reading, that could just be his style of therapy. I think I would be way more receptive to the "client centered approach" with a little CBT thrown in?

I have no idea what I'm talking about really. I just would like a therapist who can connect somewhat with their client. Get a real sense that they care. Don't spend 9 weeks trying to understand me instead of helping me. I want it to feel like a team instead of me writting in a journal and getting no response or feedback. Also, maybe help me and encourage me with CBT instead of showing no interest in what I've been doing or my progress.

I'm not sure how helpful this was. Anyways, the fact that you made this post tells me you should be fine in this department. Good luck! :)
