For those who have been victims of violent crimes: what message do you have for advocates of defunding the police?

The police didn't prevent what I experienced, and "the system" didn't help my trauma, nor did it help to actually rehabilitate my attacker. What would have helped would have been more social services available to my attacker both as a child and as an adult. I'm pretty sure if he hadn't been a victim of violent crime due to his parents' drug abuse and neglect, he would not have gone on to himself become a violent drug addict.

We will always need police to investigate crimes. Otherwise, most situations require de-escalation. Do you know why there's no "fuck the fire department" or "fuck paramedics"? They've been trained to de-escalate situations and show compassion.
