You have a (sort of) good point but you're phrasing it badly. Yes, unless you're dan rank, chances are your weaknesses in areas other than the opening will probably outweigh any significant differences in openings you might consider.

Some outdated openings might simply fit your playstyle better than other, superior openings. Even if your opponent perfectly counters it (which is doubtful if you're a weaker player), the disadvantage you're burdened with is most likely negligible. The margin of error for any given move is simply too high in beginner games.

However, this pre-supposes that you're already competent enough to apply opening basics and avoid obvious mistakes (e.g. bad direction of play, missing the big points, failing a proper territory/influence balance, initiating middle game too early/late).
