For those of you who think the leaked plot details suck...

See, here is the thing. People do sometimes accuse me of being kinda snobby towards modern films. But I don't really like many movies from the 1960s- at least hollywood movies. Or during the Hayes Codes, there is some good stuff, but a lot of horrible junk. Or the 70s jazzploitation movies and stuff---- that just doesn't appeal to me.

I love a lot of old film. some foreign stuff.

One of my earliest memories of life is renting the empire strikes back. I think after WWII art and literature really did begin to replace religion in consumer first world cultures- and the artistry of star wars- it made popular art ART. It took cultural iconography and remixed it in a way that was more or less to never be repeated.

The music is astounding, breathtaking brilliant, even if at times reductive. Williams does not get the credit he deserves.

Great film scores today? not many anymore. Great stories and original writing- not too much.

Honestly I watched Brick and I thought it was kinda interesting. I like the way Johnson used some of the sets, I like how he turned a high school into a film noir- and I really like how he made the characters deeply and emotionally engaged with the world. Was the plot great? Was it perfect- no. But it was kinda different. Not overly reliant on cgi- if there was any at all I didn't notice.

There is no single Christopher Nolan movie I think works all around, but I think he gets close to some kind of emotional involvement in The Dark Knight and in Inception. I would say I enjoyed those movies. But I thought a lot of the acting in inception was really bad- and some of the end sequence stuff was way too james bond and felt off tone.

So, really it's just that I love good movies. I kinda keep my standards high- I would rather be let down 100 times and finally be satisfied when something great is made.

Our standards in large part control the kind of "art" that is made. Or whether we get art or just "consumer products".

I think my generation has been fucking lazy. I cannot believe Jurassic World made a billion billion dollars.
